March: Matthew Larson

Matthew Larson, WorldDenver's Volunteer of the Month and new board secretary, is an
environmental and business lawyer, by day, in the Denver-based law firm, Ireland
Stapleton Pryor & Pascoe, PC. When not helping to grow WorldDenver's footprint,
Larson counsels local, regional and national companies on environmental law compliance
and issues; advises lenders and other businesses on environmental compliance issues
associated with real estate transactions and acquisitions; and works with businesses on land use and
zoning issues. Further, he advises businesses on formation issues and other general contract related
matters.
Additionally, Larson has also worked on matters before the Colorado Public Utilities Commission relating
to transmission and renewable energy infrastructure including permitting, renewable energy credit
trading, and resource planning activities. Larson is a 2009 graduate of the University of Denver, Sturm
College of Law. He graduated in the top five percent of his class and was the Articles Editor of the
University of Denver Water Law Review.
Through its previous relationship with the Institute for International Education, Ireland Stapleton Pryor
& Pascoe, PC has been involved with WorldDenver, for more than 60 years starting with founding
partner Ben Stapleton and continuing on with Monte Pascoe and Russell Kemp, who is now serving
as board chair. Larson was introduced to WorldDenver through the firm's connection, and Ireland
Stapleton often hosts delegations in their Downtown Denver office. Most recently, Ireland Stapleton
assisted WorldDenver in obtaining tax-exempt status.
"WorldDenver and the people you meet through the organization's activities serve as a window to the
world," says Larson, "It's very exciting to be involved at this level."
